My work is the eccentric by-product of my interest around identity, sex and dissent. One of my biggest artistic influences is the surrealist photographer Claude Cahun. I’ve always been fascinated by the way photography can blur the line between reality and representation, between who we are and who we choose to be. I think these ideas probably carry into my companionship as well, how the space we create together can feel slightly removed from everyday life, like a small world of our own for a little while. Nature is another big part of my life. I spend a lot of time in my garden and out hiking, which I find grounding and deeply rewarding. My favourite plant is an Australian native called Myoporum floribundum. In summer it’s covered in tiny white flowers that look like a dusting of snow. I’ve always loved that visual contradiction, how something looks like winter in the middle of the heat. It feels like a gentle reminder to look closer at things, because the most interesting details are usually easy to miss. When I’m not tied up with my creative work, climbing mountains or enjoying my beautiful friends, it’s safe to assume I’m dancing scantily clad with a loud record on, sweating it out at hot yoga or cuddled up with my dog reading a book or re-watching one of my favourite films.
